Martial Arts Uniforms and Silk?

Hello, I was wondering if there is a silk-like fabric that is durable enough to be used in making a martial arts uniform. I know regular silk snags, so the uniform would eventually look like crap, so is there a highly durable weave of silk that won't unravel or snag? If so where can I get it. Also, if you don't know of anything like that, do you know if they make a artificial silk that's durable? I'm looking for a cloth that is smooth and shiny, so if you know of any others besides silk then that would be helpful to, any information you can supply me with will be highly appreciated, thanks! :)
