How to you clean up the overflow from the oil filter in a Toyota 4runner (v6)?

The 2004 Toyota 4runner (v6) oil filter is located where you can access it from under the hood, not from under the car like most. The filter has this little cup type thing around that catches the oil when you take the old filer off....but then you are left with this huge cup of oil! Is there a plug under it or something do you can then drain the cup? Or are you just supposed to sop it up with rags (which I ended up doing)?
